Most of all be kind to yourself and others

It's beena while since i've posted.. but i could not help but share this email.

Dear Friends,

Sunday at the pot-luck I heard this song, Keep on the Sunny Side. It reminded me of this essay I wrote. Here it is.

In the middle of night I wrote something down again. This is becoming a habit too. When I got up this morning I found the note in the bathroom. It is almost like I get a gift each morning. I could not wait to see what is going to come from it.

The words I wrote down were; Keep on the sunny side of the street. I looked it up on Google and lo and behold it is the words to a Frank Sinatra song. I can't remember ever hearing it and I don't know the tune, but the words have other meanings too.

One evening I walked down the main street of our little town. The sun was setting; one side of the street was in shadows and the other in bright sunshine. When I got up this morning and saw these words I remembered this picture.

In the sun we are bathed in warmth and love, while the shadows make us feel cool or maybe even cold. Then I got to thinking about what we do to ourselves. It is our choice to walk on the sunny side or we can drudge along in the shadows and hide from ourselves and our feelings.

I don't know about you, but I am tired of hiding! When I began to FLY, I started to come out of the shadows and into the light of love. This is the love that I have for myself. Every day that love glows brighter. When I take care of my body I am taking care of my spirit too. My being needs a comfortable place to live and be loved. My body is the sacred place that is me. I am not going to eat food that is poison to my body!

All of this love didn't happen overnight. It took lots of babysteps and to tell the truth I take a new one each and every day. With each little step I FLY higher and love myself more.

There are other things that put us on the sunny side of the street.

Saying positive things instead of whining
Getting enough sleep
Eating meals and drink your water
Taking breaks instead of pushing to exhaustion
Giving your children hugs and not harsh words
Limit your volunteering
Let go of your perfectionism
Please and thank you are better than nags
Let go of your martyred attitude
Don't pile on to your duties.
Take BabySteps
Use your routines to guide you through your day
Plan for tomorrow instead of putting out fires
Go to the doctor and dentist for check ups
Most of all be kind to yourself and others

If you are doing these thing, you will be walking on the sunny side of the street. When are you going to step out of those dark looming shadows into the light of your own love! It doesn't take much, any one of these babysteps will set you on the right path if you will just step out of the shadows in faith and start to FLY!

Are you ready to join me in the warmth of the sunshine of your love?

Morning Musing: I Can See Clearly Now!

Flylady email i got today, enjoy. about clutter in your house and body and mind!

Dear Friends,

Do you remember the song that has this verse? I can see clearly now the rain is gone; all obstacles that were in my way. I don't know the exact words, I will look them up later.

Your clutter is standing in your way. When you take the time to eliminate it, you will find that the brain fog that has been clouding your vision will slowly begin to lift and you will start to think clearly. You don't believe me. How can my clutter be clouding my brain!

Well let me tell you! Clutter has a life of its own! And it changes shapes too! We have the physical clutter! We all know and have it hiding. Then there is the mental clutter: WORRY! My granny calls it "studying on it" Worry takes you away from the here and now and puts you in that "Ole poor me" mode in the future! I am here to tell you, if you think about it, you are going to bring it about!

Then there is GUILT! Oh this one eats us alive! It takes you away from the present and puts you in the past! No wonder you can't get anything accomplished, you are stuck in some time warp and you can't get out! I want you to jump out of this black hole and deal with the now! What can you do right this minute that would make you feel better? Is it balance your check book, look at your bills and pay them, or is it shining your sink or just spending 15 minutes clearing off your desk so you can think when you are sitting there!

Financial clutter is baggage that just gets heavier if you don't sit down and deal with it. As hard as it is; opening up those bills and putting them down on paper is going to help you see through the fog. It is the not knowing and not dealing with it that keeps us blinded. Then you can see who you need to call and talk to. You can make a plan if you know. If you don't face this with courage and at least 15 minutes at a time, you are going to get stranded not knowing and the fear, worry, and guilt is going to keep you paralyzed in your blindness!

This kind of clutter makes your other clutter get worse! Not to mention your hips! We stuff our feelings and eat, putting more clutter on our bodies which put more guilt on you! This vicious cycle has got to stop!

I would not be able to do what I do surrounded by clutter! It was only after I faced my fears of letting go of stuff, money problems, and guilt that I was able to see that my life had a purpose! Your well being is precious to me! I want you to take care of yourself!

Are you ready to FLY?

Don't Quit

Enjoyed this.. thought i'd share!

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all up hill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow,
Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

leftover martyrs

This email cracked me up from Savingdinner.com. Growing up i totally HATED left overs, and to this day i wont eat anything left over unless its alfredo.... thought this was interesting, and yes rachel.. GROW UP hahahahahahhahaha

Dear Friends,

There is this notion going around in families, that leftovers are an evil thing. This isn't new; it's been around since the advent of the icebox when the idea of even keeping leftovers was doable. Not having a freshly made meal, to most, is unthinkable. A meal of MRE's and dehydrated astronaut food would be better. Anything twigs and pebbles in the Outback, but NOT leftovers!

You've heard it yourself. "What's for dinner?", asks your earnest family. "Leftovers!" you retort with a sense of pride in your voice (after all, what a smart woman you are to make enough so you only have to cook once for two meals!). Then the groans start; pitiful and pathetic. Like you're threatening to stick a hot poker in each of their eyes. As if they're going to be fed cold gruel and a portion of dried chipped beef in a cage for the rest of their lives.

The problem with leftovers is they look so leftover. Girlfriend, if you want to trot out the leftovers the next day (and who doesn't?), you just gotta dress 'em up a little different! Let's go over the Three Rules for a Leftover Relaunch:

1)Change it. If it was baked chicken last night, chop up the leftover chicken and make chicken enchiladas tonight, chicken potpie or chicken noodle soup. The possibilities are endless; think beyond adding a can of cream of whatever soup and calling it a casserole.

2)Freeze it. No one said you HAVE to have it the next night. If the recipe is amenable, throw it in a freezer bag, mark it with a Sharpie (what it is—no, you will not remember, and the date; you won't remember that either) and yank it out as a great back up when you need it.

3)Lunch it. Pack it up for your hubby and you to take to work the next day. Chances are good it's just enough for the both of you. You're both adults and can suck it up a bit and do this. I promise, you will not die from eating the same thing twice in less than 24 hours.

There is no need to moan over leftovers (though your children may think so) and there is no need for you to act like a leftover martyr (though you may have inherited this unfortunate skill from your mother).

Now, if YOU are part of the problem with not liking leftovers, it's time to pull up your big girl panties and put on a great big smile. Part of growing up and maturing is doing the right thing for the right reasons. In today's economy and just for the sake of being a little more green, eating your leftovers and using them up is helping you, to quote Benjamin Franklin, become "healthy, wealthy and wise."

So chins up leftover martyrs and tally ho you leftover hating people! There are ways around this mountain and using the 3 rules above will get you where you want to go, save you so money, time and sanity. What's not to love about that?

Love,

Being thankful

Read this today... enjoy.

I am Thankful :

FOR THE WIFE
WHO SAYS IT'S HOT DOGS TONIGHT,
BECAUSE SHE IS HOME WITH ME,
AND NOT OUT WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

FOR THE HUSBAND
WHO IS ON THE SOFA
BEING A COUCH POTATO,
BECAUSE HE IS HOME WITH ME
AND NOT OUT AT THE BARS.

FOR THE TEENAGER
WHO IS COMPLAINING ABOUT DOING DISHES
BECAUSE IT MEANS SHE IS AT HOME,
NOT ON THE STREETS.

FOR THE TAXES I PAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM EMPLOYED.

FOR THE MESS TO CLEAN AFTER A PARTY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE
BEEN SURROUNDED BY FRIENDS.

FOR THE CLOTHES THAT FIT A LITTLE TOO SNUG
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT.

FOR MY SHADOW THAT WATCHES ME WORK
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM OUT IN THE SUNSHINE

FOR A LAWN THAT NEEDS MOWING,
WINDOWS THAT NEED CLEANING,
AND GUTTERS THAT NEED FIXING
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE A HOME.

FOR ALL THE COMPLAINING
I HEAR ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT
BECAUSE IT MEANS
WE HAVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH..

FOR THE PARKING SPOT
I FIND AT THE FAR END OF THE PARKING LOT
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM CAPABLE OF WALKING
AND I HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH TRANSPORTATION.

FOR MY HUGE HEATING BILL
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I AM WARM.

FOR THE LADY BEHIND ME IN CHURCH
WHO SINGS OFF KEY BECAUSE IT MEANS
I CAN HEAR.

FOR THE PILE OF LAUNDRY AND IRONING
BECAUSE IT MEANS
I HAVE CLOTHES TO WEAR.

FOR WEARINESS AND ACHING MUSCLES
AT THE END OF THE DAY
BECAUSE IT MEANS I HAVE BEEN
CAPABLE OF WORKING HARD.

FOR THE ALARM THAT GOES OFF
IN THE EARLY MORNING HOURS
BECAUSE IT MEANS I AM ALIVE.
